New fall turkey season proposed in some WMUs

Improved data gathered from mandatory hunter reporting played a part in an Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) proposal to open a fall wild turkey season in Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) 60, 63, 69, 70, 74, 75, and 86.

That data showed robust turkey populations in those WMUs that met the criteria for fall wild turkey seasons established in the Wild Turkey Management Plan for Ontario.

If approved, the new hunt will start in October 2022 and include a bow season from Oct. 1 to 31 and a shotgun and muzzle-loading season from the Tuesday after Thanksgiving Monday to the second following Sunday. A public comment period closed on Dec. 20, 2021.
