One of Ontario’s most storied hunts has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 14, the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Pelee announced that they made “the difficult decision to cancel the annual Pelee Island Pheasant Hunt for 2020.”

At press time, refunds and/or transfers were in the process of being issued to those who had bought licences.

The township’s press release indicated that the hunt, which first began in 1932 and draws approximately 1,000 hunters annually, will resume in 2021. The hunts are typically slated in October, November, and the following January.
