Springwater Township has approved Sunday gun hunting. The change, which will come into effect in time for turkey season, was passed by council on Nov. 1, 2023. The decision followed a survey in which 80% of the 537 respondents supported Sunday gun hunting.

The Barrie-area township has now requested that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) amend appropriate regulations to permit Sunday gun hunting. Amendment requests are typically approved on March 31 and August 31, so it is expected that the regulatory change will come into effect on April 1.

After that, Sunday gun hunting will be allowed on private property and Crown land within the Township of Springwater. Upon approval, the township will be the 190th municipality in Ontario that permits Sunday hunting. The concept was introduced in 2006.
