The second of four licence-free fishing opportunities returns this Mother’s Day weekend.

No licence is needed to wet a line on Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9, but conservation licence limits apply.

Other designated annual licence-free periods include Father’s Day (June 19-20), and Family Fishing Week, from July 3-11.  The first, Ontario Family Fishing Weekend, took place from Feb. 13 to 15.

At all other times, Canadian residents ages 18 to 64 must purchase a valid fishing licence to legally fish in Ontario. Veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces are exempt. Regardless of residency, individuals who have been issued an accessible parking permit under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act or an identity card from the Canadian National Institute for the blind are also exempt from purchasing an Ontario fishing licence.
