Whether or not turkey season is around the corner it’s always a good time to brush up on your knowledge. So step up and let’s see how prepared you are for the spring season.

The turkey experts at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters worked with Ontario OUT of DOORS to put together this quiz to get you ready for the hunt. Have some fun with it and pass it along to your hunting (and non-hunting) buddies.

ANSWERS:

1. A position with an object/structure behind you wider than your shoulders and taller than your head, such as a wide tree.

2. Hunter orange is not a legal requirement in the spring to hunt wild turkeys. Hunter orange is always recommended while walking to and from your hunting location, especially if you are carrying decoys or a harvested turkey. Hunter orange is, however, required for the fall wild turkey hunt if there is also an open gun hunt season for deer, moose, or elk.

3. It is recommended that hunters carry harvested birds in a camouflage hunting game vest or in a hunter orange bag.

4. Only shot sizes Number 4, 5, 6, and/or 7 can be used while hunting wild turkey with a shotgun. NOTE: Shot size 7.5 cannot be used.

5. True. You can only party hunt for deer, moose, elk and bear. Hunters can only use their tag on a turkey they harvested. NOTE: Apprentice hunters must use their mentor’s game seal.

6. Only a bearded turkey can be harvested during the spring wild turkey hunt season. Bearded hens can be legally harvested in the spring, but it’s not recommended.

7. A hunter is eligible to apply for and possess no more than two wild turkey seals for the spring wild turkey hunt.
