Editor’s note: The 2020 Toronto Sportmen’s Show was cancelled on Friday, March 13, based on recommendations made by the provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health and Peel Public Health to help reduce possible risk regarding the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
The Toronto Sportsmen’s Show (TSS) is back for a 73rd year with something for everyone this March Break.
The all-encompassing outdoor super show returns to more than 350,000 square feet of exhibit space at in Mississauga from March 18-22, 2020.
“We’re thrilled to head back to The International Centre to celebrate the great Canadian outdoors, accompanied by fellow outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers,” Peter Lockhart, CEO of the Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows, stated in a release. “We hope to see you there!”
More than 63,000 visitors took in the show in 2019.
Lively performances
TSS will have more than 300 exhibits, and plenty of activities — many of which feature live animals.
The Canadian Peregrine Foundation (a non-profit dedicated to restoring threatened birds of prey), will host falcons, eagles, owls, and hawks.
WoofJocks All Stars will offer a choreographed canine variety show meant to engage audiences emotionally and intellectually.
Speaking of Wildlife, Canada’s largest live animal outreach program, also has a rotating cast of Ontario residents, for hands-on education.
Cooking, camping & chainsaws
The Ministry of National Resources and Forestry (MNRF) will host a Cook your Catch demonstration stage. It will also host a lure-building workshop, and fishing simulator showcasing several live fish species.
The TSS will also feature large-scale wood carving gallery by chainsaw artist Marina Cole.
Furthermore, the West Coast Lumberjack Show will host a series of woodworking performances scheduled throughout the day. Attendees can also expect to be entertained by the turkey calling competition, as well as the chance to win a Coleman camping prize pack.
Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters
Meanwhile, National Archery in the Schools (NASP) has an interactive shooting booth for aspiring archers to test their skills, available for ages six and up.
The OFAH is providing free entry to the TSS for those taking the one-stop hunter education program at the The International Centre on the week of the show. If you’ve been meaning to acquire a firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) as well as a hunting license, you can do so by contacting licensed instructor Jim Docherty through his e-mail provided here.
In the Ontario OUT of DOORS Hunting Hall at the OFAH booth, you can witness the grand prize draw for OFAH’s 50/50, a premiere electronic raffle bolstered for supporting conservational efforts.
