The next time you purchase a game seal or fishing licence in Ontario, expect to pay a little bit more. Fees went up an average of 3% on almost all licence fees.
“We have listened to anglers and hunters who prefer small annual increases as opposed to a single periodic large increase. The fee increase has been endorsed by the Fish and Wildlife Heritage Commission,” said Karen Passmore, communications and marketing specialist with the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Passmore added, “It is also important to note that fees charged for hunting and fishing licences are used for fish and wildlife management purposes only. The additional revenue from these modest increases will assist in covering increased operating costs for our fish and wildlife programs; this includes such activities as fish culture and stocking and moose surveys.”
The hunter education program also saw some increases, with the cost of the exam moving from $5.71 to $10 and the hunter education manual from $18 to $20. This program hasn’t seen an increase in manuals or exams since 2004.

How is it every year the price of these tags go up & you don’t show no justification to this or where the money goes?
Nice to know our fees keep going up and yet the cuts to the mnr and related conservation keep coming.
This makes me want to stop hunting and fishing. Every year increases in price and less visibility of the conservation officers on patrol. The moose group I hunt with have gone 8 years without an adult tag and they still want to increase the fees for all 8 of us to hopefully be successful in the draw. We have tried every angle from applying as an individual or as a group. To me if the guaranteed group size is 16 we should draw an adult tag every second year. That would make us happy and want to continue to hunt/fish and donate our hard earned money to our greedy government who tend to make us all pay for their stupid mistakes.
If I have to start worrying about a 50 cent increase or a few dollars, maybe it’s time I pick a new hobby. Everything in life is going up, get a grip.
And I’ve been told that all our information is gone to the u.s to some company that then sends us our Canadian licenses ? WTF. Is going on
