OF scholarship

An outdoor aficionado who loves hunting deer with her dad has won the second annual Outfitter Financial Scholarship for 2024.

Olivia Gaeleb, of Havelock, who is now studying kinesiology at the University of Ottawa, won $2,500 to go towards her education. She was joined by family, including dad Chris, as she accepted the prize August 27 from Outfitter Financial owner and head guide Scott Morrow at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) in Peterborough.

Students ages 18 to 21 are eligible. First, they must submit a photo of their favourite fishing or hunting memory to the Trophy Room of the Outfitter Financial website and explain why it is so important. Second, they must submit a 500-word essay explaining how, in the past year, they’ve lived one or more of the company’s five brand values, including Respect for nature, Respect for people, Never, ever ego, Student of the game, and Better together.

The scholarship recipient was chosen by professional writing and branding firm Coin Branding from 17 applications on Aug. 1.

Last year’s winner was Troy Blackwell of Oshawa, an OFAH NXT-GEN Ambassador.
