fish sandwich

Q: During our one-week fishing trips, we sometimes have cooked fish left over in our fridge. Do those mashed up, spiced up fish sandwiches count as part of our possession limit?

Brian Honey, Barrie

A: Yes, those fish would count towards your possession limit. The possession limit is the number of fish you are allowed to have in your possession on hand, in cold storage, in transit, or anywhere else (this includes fish that have been prepared to be eaten, but not yet consumed). For each fisheries management zone, possession limits are the same as one day’s catch limit except as otherwise specified in the recreational fishing regulations summary.

All fish caught by sport fishing must be packaged so that they can be easily counted and identified, and readily measurable if they are from waterbodies where size limits exist — this doesn’t apply if they are being prepared for immediate consumption. Anglers are also reminded that aggregate (combined) limits and provincial possession limits apply for several species in Ontario.
