The contest is open to Ontario students in grades 4 to 12 and this year entrants were asked to feature the largemouth bass in their drawings. Competition was stiff for 2013, with 370 students submitting entries.
This year’s winners are as follows:
- Catherine Chen from Toronto – overall winner and winner for the grade 7 to 9 category;
- Yuk Ki Wong from Toronto – winner of the grade 10 to 12 category; and
- Faith Chiu from Thornhill – winner of the grade 4 to 6 category.
Each of the winners will have their art featured on the 2014 Young Angler’s Licence, of which there will be 3 versions, a complete set of fishing gear donated by Lucky Strike Bait Works and art supplies for their classroom donated by Staedtler-Mars.
For being the overall winner, Chen receives this in addition to a 4-day fishing excursion provided by Pine Portage Lodge and a day of fishing with Canadian Sportfishing television show host Italo Labignan.
“The Kids’ Fish Art Contest is a great way for children to learn about the many species swimming around in Ontario waters,” said Minister of Natural Resources David Orazietti. “I encourage young people to get outside and explore some of the other outdoor adventures Ontario has to offer.”
