The 35th annual Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) Under the Lock Fishing Derby returns to Peterborough this weekend with 3,000 stocked trout, 500 tagged fish, and more than $35,000 in prizes.
“The 3,000 trout that we stocked yesterday are hungry and ready to bite on Saturday morning for the youth derby,” OFAH Outreach Programs Supervisor David Ryrie stated in a release. “Each brook trout caught wins a prize, plus a hot dog lunch for the youth. Sunday morning will have even more chances to win with 35 sponsored tagged rainbow trout added worth a total of $7,000 in cash for anglers of all ages to win.”
The nine-day-event launches with the Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continues with an All Ages Fishing Derby until Sunday, May 5 at 5 p.m. The High School Fishing Derby will run May 1 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m (All Ages Fishing will be suspended during this time). Grand prizes include $1,000, $5,000, and two $250 prizes, plus OFAH summer day camp enrolment. Other prizes include fishing rods and tackle, camping gear, a mountain bike, and more, thanks to the donations of local businesses.
