As anglers and hunters, we are very accustomed to change. If I had a nickel for every time I heard, “You should have been here yesterday. Conditions were perfect!” Well, at today’s prices, I might have enough money to buy a box of premium ammo.
We learn that what we were doing the last time on the water or in the field doesn’t always work today. Grouse push into the dark growth as the snow falls and the season extends. You discover that the flocks of turkeys you’ve seen all winter in your neighbour’s field actually prefer a different locale after you’ve sat waiting since well before dawn for them on opening day. Or, that “for sure” dock that always holds a good-size largemouth hasn’t produced all season because the owners got a new Labrador retriever who is constantly running back and forth on the dock because he’s so happy to see you.
Change in media
Things change, and the media industry in general is no exception.
Like most of you, I enjoy getting my print copy of the mag. There’s something about the tactile feel of holding it in your hands and flipping pages that is difficult to replace. When, why, and how our readers consume angling and hunting content, however, has changed over the years, and we need to stay in tune with that.
The OFAH is in the midst of an organization-wide transformation that will see us modernize in many ways. Anchored by OOD, that includes offering additional engaging digital media content, when and how you want it. That experience will continue to include an industry-leading print publication but will soon feature expanded digital offerings to meet the ever-changing expectations of modern audiences.
Thank you for being a part of the journey.
