national conservation plan logoThe federal government announced late last week that under the second round of the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program it will provide up to $38,935 to the Long Pond Shoreline Enhancement Project within the Toronto islands.

This project will restore a degraded shoreline along the north shore of Long Pond. The purpose of the project is to help enhance existing habitat and increase productivity of northern pike, largemouth bass, and panfish, such as yellow perch and pumpkinseed.

“Our government is committed to supporting the individuals and organizations who are working along the shores of lakes, rivers and streams across this country to protect and restore fishing habitats for future generation,” said Etobicoke – Lakeshore MP Bernard Trottier. “Recreational fishing is an important economic activity which attracts thousands of visitors to Canada and contributes billions of dollars to our economy every year.”
