Ontario OUT of DOORS contributor Tom Armstrong was honoured by the Professional Outdoor Media Association of Canada (POMAC) as winners of the organization’s 2024 annual awards were announced on Wednesday, June 5.
He took second place in the Photography: Outdoor Activities category for “The Work Begins” from the Nov.-Dec. 2023 issue.
Other works honoured
OOD contributors also won for work for other publications. Jeff Helsdon won first place in the Fishing Feature category for “A 500-year fishing tradition provides new thrills for anglers” in North American Outdoorsman.
James Smedley won first place in same category as Armstrong, for “Family hike” in the Algoma Country 2023 Travel Guide. He also won first place in the Future of Hunting in Canada Award for “Turked for Lillian – a work in progress” in The Outdoors Guide.
More than 115 entries assessed
Judges evaluated nearly 117 submissions in 11 categories, POMAC Awards Chair André Desrosiers stated.
“Thank you to all of the judges who volunteered so many hours to evaluate the submissions, and a very special thank you to our sponsors, Tourism Saskatchewan, Shimano, Outdoor Group Media, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Benelli, and Delta Waterfowl,” he stated. “Support from our sponsors and the dedication of our judges continues to raise the bar for outdoor communications in Canada.”
POMAC was previously known as the Outdoor Writers of Canada.
