Hunters who visit the 12 Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) properties where hunting is allowed must now pay an additional $75 for a resident permit or $125 for a non-resident permit, plus HST.
A resident is someone who resides or owns property in a member municipality. Permits are valid for the year.
This is in addition to having proof of OFAH membership with accompanying insurance and all appropriate hunting licences.
Several other unrelated activities also now require permits.
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is apprehensive about more costs being put on hunters.
“We understand that Ontario conservation authorities have little choice in this matter, and find it concerning that the provincial government’s recent changes necessitate additional fees for hunters, who already contribute so much to conservation in Ontario,” OFAH Wildlife Biologist Matthew Robbins stated.
There are 36 conservation authorities in Ontario. Cost and number of hunting permits sold vary. For more info, visit: conservationontario.ca

This is absolutely obsurd. In most cases Conservation Authorities only own those properties due to the MNR either giving it them to meet their mandate goals of flood control and drainage management. These properties in most case sit idle for years and years with very limited upkeep or maintenance. This is just another attempt for the conservation authority to get more money out of taxpayers. Now a hunter has to pay a CA twice just because they are partaking in hunting? The CA should stick to their mandate of flood control. This is just an attempt to look more relevant in the public eye year round or, in the case of some CA’s, at all. And, who at conservation Ontario thought it is a good idea to have conservation authority staff walking into an area where guys are hunting to check for a park pass? I know it happens elsewhere isn’t Province and it is dangerous and ridiculous. Stick to water management and please leave hunting to those who already manage it.
