While they will need a new captain, that wasn't what I was getting at. For the last few years, whenever things were going bad, they either blamed Phaneuf, Kessel, or whoever was in goal (or a combination of the three). The Leafs have gotten rid of the usual sources of blame, so it'll be interesting to see who gets the brunt of the fans anger when they tank in the future.

Yeah I hear you, but the other angle is putting someone in that can change the culture of that team. The culture is the biggest killer. Look at Kadri, the leafs are busy ruining that kid. Babcock is certainly a good guy to have to clean up house, but he needs help on the ice too. Besides when Stamkos is done, they can open up cap and get someone in to fill his shoes. But maybe it'll cost too much now. In my view, I'd love to see Stamkos skate for the leafs, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'm just wishful thinking.

He had this when no one was the clear Captain. He didnt take it away from Scott Stevens.
IMO they'll give it to Stamkos this summer if they can sign him. If not, it will sit vacant until someone proves they're worthy of it.

Has too much time on their hands
Still remember what I think was Phanuefs first game here.
He actually defended a teamate and fought someone!!!!
Went downhill from there... Hasn't actually hit the net since.
Miss the net...around the boards and out of the zone...how many times
did that happen???

I agree, may not be the right time for Stamkos but I would love to see it!!
