Default Bill Blair wakes up !!

Air travellers entering Canada must have a negative COVID-19 test before arrival

Air passengers entering Canada will need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test before arriving in the country, the federal government announced today.

Travellers must receive a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test within a 72-hour period prior to boarding a plane — a requirement Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc said will be in place "quickly," though he did not provide an exact date.

The measure does not replace the federal government's mandatory 14-day quarantine period, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair warned.

"This is not an alternative to quarantine. It's an additional layer," Blair said during a public health briefing.

The Canada Border Services Agency also will be increasing its presence at airports across Canada, the minister said.

"Additional border officers will be present at various positions to reinforce compliance messaging," Blair said, adding that teams already have been sent to customs and baggage areas and inspection lines to speak to travellers about their obligations — and the consequences of failing to follow the rules.

The federal government has advised against non-essential travel outside Canada since the start of the pandemic, though officials noted Wednesday that about two per cent of COVID-19 cases have been brought into the country from overseas.

A bunch of people in Ontario sounding off about Phillip? And some sounding off about travel, or Ford ripping them for lax measures at airports?

To be a wee bit fair, it was quietly mentioned a week ago with news of the mutation in the UK. But optics are everything are they not, given the storm today.

Sad indeed-no one in Canada should "invent "new things about Covid-these measures are present/enforced for a long time in many countries in the world-one would only need to look and learn.

Many third world countries have had these measures in place for months now.
Canada's health "experts" are a pathetic bunch. I suspect most of them don't even know what their purpose is.

The problem is, and I've seen it with Dr. Tam a few times, that she is being told by Politicians what her 'opinions' are. I watched her body language when she had to support the Mask issue. You could tell she disagreed , but she was being force the support the Liberal's agenda.

The Politicians have been running the show from the get go and they use these Token 'experts' to sell it to the public.

I also look at it as reverse psychology on people.
You book a trip down south with a one week vacation allotment.
You may be asymptomatic and test positive. You will be denied boarding on your return flight home.
You must quarantine for 14 days before you test again at your own expense (hotels, meals, etc.) minus any pay you are now forfeiting back home.

Makes for an expensive trip if things don't line up for you.
You are at the mercy of an unreliable PCR or antigen test administered in a foreign country who's quality control procedures may not be adequate.

You don't have to quarantine 14 days in the foreign country. You only need to remain there until you get a clean test.

Yes there is a risk to it. But that's the purpose of this scheme - to present travellers with risk if they do get covid, and hopefully have
people voluntarily reduce the amount of international travel being done.

Without the test, you can travel anywhere and if you think you contracted covid, you fly home to Canada for treatment.
On your way back, you infect a few hundred other travellers. It doesn't take a lot of smarts to figure that a) this is not a good idea
and b) it has been happening a lot.

It's a far more sensible measure that lockdowns. I do support the masks/indoors thing though - partly that I think it helps, but
mostly its not very harmful to society. Nowhere near on the scale of lockdowns or bans on family gatherings.
