You sound very American Joe.

No you probably don't, under your constitutional rights of course? But how about your conscience? Knowing that the officer was hired and mandated by your society to uphold and enforce the laws to protect everyone, are you not interested in helping him/her keep things running smoothly? The officer might be looking for a rapist on the loose, but you, within your constitutional rights of course, are afraid to, and refuse to answer a few questions that could possibly assist the officer?
The chest thumping gets a little loud every now and again and it's a huge part of what annoys Canadians about their U.S neighbours. Can't see the trees for the forest?

Any lawyer worth his salt will tell you not to answer any questions - why - because anything you say can be used against you - even if you innocently tell the cop something he can turn it around and next thing you are charged with some crime - if you answer one of his questions and your answer leads to more questions and then during the course of the questioning you say something a little different he can arrest you for lying to him
If the officer is suppose to uphold the law then he should recognize the citizen's right not to answer any questions - and as far as not seeing the trees - maybe it's because we put a very high value on freedom and liberty that we just don't give them up lightly - far too many cops have acted wrongly while the so-called good cops watched and did nothing - what is happening with regard to how the public deals with the cops rests squarely on the cops - they have created the situation
If a cop pulls me over for some traffic violation and then starts questioning me about some rape that happened - on what grounds does he think its me - he has my name and address from the information I had to give him - if I was the rapist do you think I'm going to tell him the truth - as far as chest thumping - I call it vigilance

It's the world we live in now people. Any time someone sees something that can be interpreted as out of the ordinary, the authorities are notified. Most of the time it's nothing, but on the rare occasion it is. I think back to the early 70's when people used to have a gun rack in their rear truck window displaying a gun, and wonder what would happen if someone today did that and drove through an urban area.

Back home the cops would stop you and want to fondle it and go somewhere and try it out. Here, not so much.
I used to keep a gun in my trunk at High School. Me and the Asst. Principal bird hunted after school. We used to keep guns in the college dorm and a dog pen just legally off campus property.

Had the shotgun in my dorm closet...my Asian roommates and their friends just loved the "white" birds I would bring to the dorm. Gave them all boxes and told them to keep them frozen and don't open them till Chistmas. Boy was I a popular guy after Christmas.
