This new tax helps save the planet by allowing fewer trips (gas will just be too expensive) with a vehicle and more walking. So more walking means more people will stay healthier and if more are healthier, less money will be spent on health care and if less money is spent on healthcare then more money can be spent on education. Free education for everyone means more good paying jobs for our kids and better paying jobs mean more taxes collected, more taxes collected means we can spend more on and it goes on and on and on..... all this BS makes for a good politician. eh?

Graduating more students than there are jobs just means better educated burger flippers and UI collectors. The kids already have a hard time finding employment not sure how adding to the pool will create more demand? Don't get me wrong I have no problem with helping kids afford post secondary, in a perfect world money shouldn't hold back students but if the Province needs 1500 nurses a year to cover attrition and growth how does pumping out 3000 of them help us? We will subsidize expensive degrees that may end up leaving the country then our investment is wasted or they take jobs in fields that have no relation to the money spent educating them.

Interesting to mention the impact to Torontonians;
so why it’s logical and a positive side-effect for CW that Torontonians get off the hook, it contributes to our greater problem.

Look at the statistics; e.g. land mass, total inhabitants, population density/distribution – we all know we have a unique challenge: urbanization.
Urbanization is the root cause for so many problems; e.g. ridiculous home prices, job competition leading to student debt, unnecessary carbon footprint due to traffic congestions in the GTA, etc.
Taxes like this eventually add up to make living in rural areas less attractive for young families and lead to more urbanization – actually aggravating the real problem.

well, it is kind of the nature of the beast in a democracy, but the difference between a government and a political party is that one has to do what is in the best interest of all people, whereas the other is only measured if they win an election (no matter how - as long as they don’t get caught). There is quite a tendency that left governments are less inclusive than the right, but at the same time campaigning often suggests the opposite.

A) This tax has a in fact a negative impact on the environment
B) Taxes don’t change behaviour. Never have, never will – gas has been heavily taxed for long. Why do many of us still have their V8 and save money somewhere else? You need to change a person’s beliefs to change their behaviour.
C) Can anyone seriously belief in this government? Other than those who get paid off by them, of course. Speaking of it, where do think will the money go anyways?

An extra 4 cents a litre isn't going to change ANY gas consumption habits. It'll take $3/litre before people will actually start taking the bus.

This will do nothing to help climate change. This is a way to steal more money and put it in their pockets.

If you can...
Most people in downtown Toronto will already not use their car, because they have reasonable options to get from A to B; i.e. public transit is faster and cheaper than being stuck in traffic and paying $20 for parking.
Too bad if you don't even have the option. A few years ago, had to get a colleague without driving licence from Toronto to Owen Sound; as taxi ride was costly (would have to pay 4-way), we checked bus/train. Would have taken him 2 days one way. Needless to say, we sent someone else...
Oh, just on a side note: Any gas tax will increase fares and will NOT make public transit more affordable.
