Default The benefits of the flu

I just got back from a trip to the Dominican Republic and never had any problems the 10 days we were there. 2 days after we are back i start the flu thing; fever, the runs and cramps. I am onto day 3 now and there is no fever, the cramps are just about gone and the runs are almost done.

On the plus side, my weight is now lower than when we left for our trip. I am now eating smaller portions because I am easing back into eating meats etc. I think this is a great opportunity to try to get back to eating what I need and not what I want. Smaller portions and more veggies.

Not how I would recommend losing weight but at least I'm start to feel better now!

That's the hazard of being in a confined space with sick people. If they have it,you'll get it and aircraft are the worst. Glad you're feeling better.

    This is not flu.
And that is a big reason that so many have little faith in "flu shots"

Real "flu" is influenza. High fevers, coughing+++, sore throat, probably snotty nose-- like a "cold" but 10 times worse with fever and body aches.

Sadly too many people in the medical profession call what you have--"stomach flu".

It confuses the general public what real flu is-- a respiratory/lung feverish illness.

What you had is likely some sort of "Travelers Diarrhea" from some manner of toxic E. coli, Shigella or Campylobacter from a contaminated food source in the Dominican.
You'll get better soon I hope.

But you are right on one point-- it is an effective but $h!Ty way to lose weight.

Had the same thing happen to me last year when I returned from Mexico. Had to go to the hospital and get an antibiotic shot. I believe it was from something I ate at the airport waiting for my flight...

That settles it. If I go to the Dominican, I'm driving.

Dukoral, oral vaccine taken over 2 weeks prior to departure, cost approx 50$, protects against Enterotoxigenic Escherichia Coli, my wife and I have taken every time we travel to the DR and have never had a problem even though those around of have become ill, cheap travel insurance in my opinion, if I can do this and reduce the risk I'll get sick while away or upon my return its money well spent.
