How rabies is suddenly on the rise in Canada
Canada’s unabated war against rabies has been kicked into high gear following a series of simultaneous outbreaks of the “uniformly fatal” brain disease.
hile Ontario has a lingering problem with bat rabies, officials are currently mopping up a sudden incursion of a form of raccoon-borne rabies not seen in 10 years. “We think it’s most likely that it was a hitchhiker — as in it came up on a truck from the United States,” said Chris Davies, head of wildlife research with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
"Hitchhiking" is the way diseases and even how animals can spread, just remember, those opossum's you see across Ontario started out about 30-40 years ago in Ontario by hitchhiking in from the US too.

Remember the scare West Nile put into everyone?
Well that isn't a death sentence, rabies............
Wonders if this might change attitudes towards live trapping pest in the city.

Had to take my son in for series of rabies shots last spring when he got bit by a raccoon while turkey hunting. Figured they would want to test the coon for rabies but they said no they just automatically gave him the shots.
