I love them pointing out the old war liberals and even the fact one of them MPs had to leave the Chretien gov't over conflict of interest and how many are old Chretien crowd.

Some of the changes are purely for optics (see the gender quota as one example). Funny how no one in the press (right wing or left wing) is cutting through the BS/spins/propaganda and looking at how many females won seats ( 50 of 184). Or 27% which is exactly how many females were chosen to run (30% of candidates). Why so few JT? If he were truly interested in parity, addressing it..........People are so caught up and gullible, forest for trees.

Let's also completely ignore during this love in about how wonderfully diverse it is, that there are NO blacks or Asians. In fact it's almost all white.
Why JT? To quote you its 2015 after all.

So are they collateral damage pushing a political agenda for votes, or is there something else a foot.?

Some do have nice backgrounds, some sketchy (?). Also isnt it funny that Toronto is rewarded with 7 ministers. Fully 25%. The next nearest is the entire province of Que with 6.

So half of cabinet is surprise surprise.
    Toronto and Quebec.

    Be that as it may.
One wonders why the media isn't asking the obvious.

I have zero issues with the new defense minister. He knows how difficult it is to order men into situations where they could possibly lose their lives. Hopefully he will be a good advocate for the military and will direct the military well. I hope Trudeau listens to him and benefits from his experience. Although Trudeau has already stated he will not purchase the F-35s but purchase cheaper planes and use the "savings" to increase navy spending. I think this isn't the correct way to go (neither was purchasing all F-35's). I think we need a collaboration of the two. Have one squadron (12 aircraft) of F-35's in Bagotville and another squadron of F-35's in Cold Lake. The rest of the squadrons can be replaced with F-18 Super Hornets. This gives us a very flexible air force with first strike capacity and a lesser learning curve on the Super Hornets. We need jets. Jets are our first responders to any situation. A good navy is important too but interception (both civilian situations and military threats) is much faster with the air force.

    On the defense minister.
One area, all gov'ts to date (perhaps none more so than the previous Liberal) where Im hoping for good from him. He is or will be their chief advocate.

Is how badly our veterans are treated. Harper did increase funding, so lets not get too caught up. But there are serious problems with respect to neglect, treatment of PTSD, suicides and more ( I wonder what JT will do with all those he is pulling back).....

Having "been there, done that", walked a mile...I expect some good things from him on that front.

JT introduced to the nation a cabinet which "looks like Canada" by unveiling 50/50 cabinet. This in itself is interesting because his caucus doesn't "look like Canada". Out his 184 seats, only 50 of them are held by women (27%). So how can he unveil a cabinet which is 50/50 when his own caucus isn't? Hell 31% of the Liberal party candidates in the election were women. And that was including parachuted candidates and candidates which he selected (or has anyone forgotten that mess).

Breaking down his comment even more. Canada has roughly 35 million people in it. Out that, 25 million identify with Caucasian. Roughly 2/3's. Yet the Liberal cabinet has 30 ministers plus the PM. 23 (76%) of the Cabinet ministers I would consider Caucasian. Not exactly 2/3's. Still under the 50/50 percent gender equality, roughly half of those will be women. Again Caucasian women are not 38% of the population of Canada. Furthermore, to fit this nice 50/50 split in, JT has many cabinet ministers who have zero experience in their portfolios. What does a MP from Toronto who has a medical background know about dealing with the issues surrounding natives and The Indian Act? What does a person with no listed business skill (her background on her website lists her working for non-profit organizations) have running the Ministry of Small Business and Tourism?

By all accounts he has seen combat (not a desk officer) and should be a good advocate for our military. Whether or not he is listened to or will stick by the men if Trudeau starts to rip away pieces of the military like past Liberal governments have done in the past is another thing entirely.

Some of these appointees may have a bit of a background, such as defense, but, when it comes to Liberal dogma, the party whip pulls all the peons into line as dictated by the caucus chair, namely, the PM. They better damn well do as they're told,or else.
