Yes a snatch block (pulley) is essential...it doubles your pulling power and depending on how much cable you have 2 snatch blocks could be in order and quadruple your pulling power, especially if you are traveling alone...if you are running with a group then 1 snatch block would be plenty...you have atv'd until you have your machine buried in a mud bog and when you get off to get it unstuck you are in mud up to your knees....enjoy!
PS: been there done that LMAO

I attach the pulley to the vehicle/log/dock that I am trying to move and the cable end to a solid tree. This makes my 2500lb winch into a 5000lb winch. If the load is a lot less than 5000lb, then the load on the battery is about 1/4 of what it would be with a single cable.
When working on my bike, such as installing the tracks, or just changing a tire, I hook the pulley to something overhead and run the cable back to the bike. This gives a more precise control of up and down.
If I should happen to need to use my winch to move my bike because it is stuck or broken and I am loading it on a truck or trailer then I find a firm anchor on the truck for the pulley and run the cable back to the bike.
I carry a few short pieces of nylon rope and some slings as well so I have a means to anchor the pulley. I have been known to run three pulleys at once to unstuck a 4000lb tractor from a mudhole (2000lb winch) and also to hook the pulley to the end of a 50' nylon rope so I could reach the nearest tree that was 75' away when the bike was stuck in a pond.
In short, I always like to reduce the strain on my winches (I have 3- 8000lb and four ATV sized) as much as possible so my battery and cables last.

Helmet, keeps the brain in one piece when you go for a tumble, sooner or later even getting wacked by a low branch. There's a couple of different types of pulley blocks, they come on sale quite often. You can leave it on the cable. http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/8-000-lb-pulley-block/A-p3800047e

A safety feature when winching is to throw a coat over winch line because if it happens to break the coat or some other weight will keep the line from snapping back and hitting the operator.

Id look at building a box for the front thag fits your saw properly. You can bolt it right to the front rack. Youll find the tote will come off when you least want it to
