Well gents, the gasoline method works great. I hit 4 ant hills with a healthy dose of gasoline and the ants seem to be non-existent now. Lighting the gas is not necessary (but probably fun) as I think its the fumes suffocating the little buggers that does the trick. I poured at least a quart into each hill.
I still have a half dozen hills to destroy but am real happy to have found an effective method.

Overkill...a Mini 14 would do just as good but it has to be tactialized!

pretty much my recommendation, but the OP decided with 'fire' as one of its elements. scorched earth comes to mind.
