He was hired for his reputation, people in the league respect him.

This GM will be by committee, Dubas, Hunter, and Shanny will have their say along with Babcock, Lou will be in the mix but will not be making the decisions on his own.

Nothing wrong with this move, bringing in good hockey minds can never hurt.

People say what has he done for me lately, but that would be like saying Scottie Bowman no longer knows the game, total BS, Lou had put the Devils in the playoffs all but 5 times since 1987, think about that. They never rebuilt, they kept cycling in good people and built a winning brand, that is what is needed in Toronto.

Time will tell if leaf nation will put up with the length of time required to rebuild this team. At least a few more seasons of bottom dwelling. Hoping the leafs draft well and having to move out a bunch of current players. Not gonna happen overnight. Then again, just making the playoffs will be like winning the cup for leaf fans.

On the positive side - Lou will have a lot more money to spend than he had with Jersey.

I think his role will be that of a mentor to those guys. Once his three years is up, I would expect either Dubas or Hunter to be ready to assume the GM position.

If they can build up the farm they will be ok, but they need luck too. Look at the red wings, they got lucky with many of their players. They have good scouts, they took risks on a few young guys, had the coaching in the minors and the big club and they have a winning attitude.

It will take a while for that winning attitude to rub off on the leafs but anything is possible.
