Well I'll tell you something - it must be a generational thing - when I was growing up women stayed in their more traditional roles - like mothers, teachers, nurses, secretaries, store clerks and such - it wasn't until some old biddies started the so-called women's movement that women wanted to be like men - that's when they started playing men's sports - before that they played little of any kind of sport - maybe swimming but that's about it - in those days it wasn't ladylike to do things like that - things that men did - they were suppose to sit on the side lines and cheer - if they would have played some sport no one would have watched them anyway - things are sure different these days - some women try to be like men and sometimes you can't tell them apart - you got to admit that when girls play a particular sport the level is way down compared to when men play it - the question is - has all of this made things better - you be the judge - as for me I wouldn't waste my time watching some gals playing some sport - I'd rather be fishing - did I know that the US girls were in the World Cup - no I didn't - now before you criticize my generation remember we are often referred to as the greatest generation - your pal - JoePa

If you are of the WWII generation, I commend you, however, your sexist way of thinking is really a thing of the past. Personally, I think sexist men of my generation must have some confidence issues. That aside, watch a game and let us know what you think of the ability of these women, they would run circles around most guys. These are the top women soccer players of the world. It was a really entertaining tournament, and a once in a lifetime event for us Canadians. You Americans have one of the best women's soccer teams in the world, and I think it is really sad that most of you don't even realize it because you either think women shouldn't be playing certain sports, or soccer is not your precious football, baseball or basketball.

Joepa your old school ways come across in many threads not about women's sports. Who calls you the greatest generation, you are not old enough to have served in ww2, but reaped the rewards of the post war economy. And let's not get into Vietnam. And yes I watched the game from over here in Scotland and it was great you should be very proud of your team.

No - I'm not 150 - I'm going on 81 and although I didn't personally serve in WWII I was of that generation - and what I am putting forth was the thinking that was prominent at that time and still lingers in the veins of us who lived then - for your information I served my country in Korea - something I often ponder about and wonder if I would do it again - now let's get back to the question on hand - the status of women - in those days women were held in high esteem - we would open the door for them - give them our seat on the bus - remove our hat in an elevator - not curse in their presence - treated them as we would our mothers and daughters - and because of this divorce was just about non-existent - families had a solid foundation where the husband and wife each had their different roles - they were ladies and treated as such - now a days a lot of women are as rough and tough as men and go to lengths to show that - many can curse that would make a drunken sailor blush - often times the lady-like qualities are hidden - now don't get me wrong - I'm not saying all women are like that but what I am saying that a certain percentage are and it this group that is trying to remove the gender difference that is so valuable -

So yes - old Joe has his way of thinking as he heads down the trail with his faithful dog Fritz thinking about the good old days -
