Got the E-trex 30...Never looked back. Still using Real maps compass to do the planning in camp or at a break, but walking a long in the bush or double checking locations the GPS is nice. I also use it to set my magnetic compass when I first get to an area. Two years between trips to the same lodge and there was a "FOUR DEGREE" change between magnetic and true north.
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

Backroad map books (Ontario) is where it's at imo. Its pricey but it does the job and a whole lot more. Boat launches, old logging, mining roads, rail ways, WMUs, snow/atv trails and way more.

I have the Montanna 600 because it functions as both my hand held and navigator while driving. Once I'm off city/highways I enable BRMs. Just returned from a trip up north camping/ bear hunting, well off the beaten path. It came in handy more than once, including a short night track.

iPhone apps are nice and sometimes fun. You really want to kill the batteries when your out and about or in the middle of nowhere for more than a .5 day or day?

A place a used to hunt deer. The dotted lines are decades old logging roads, it includes old reads that are so overgrown, without it, you'd never know there was once a road there.

    Driving into camp last week.

A screen shot of the area and a couple tracks. Zoomed in but trust me, every abandoned mining/log road (even those overgrown), and more is there.

Is the backroad maps...limited to one user and unit or could a buddy of mine split the cost and each load the map on our etrex 20's???

I loaded on a free version ibyscus 4.0 canada topo .....but the BRM certainly looks like there is more features and info.

Not likely Twostroke as it runs off the Micro SD card, not loaded memory.

I just popped the micro SD card into my unit and leave it there.I disable BRM in normal day to day life for the simple reason there is so much on the map. So I would think you could both use the card, but obviously not at the same time .

Ok thanks...thats kinda what I figured and I am sure the card and map is locked somehow so you cannot copy the file over to another micro sd card as well.
