I don't blame the guy one bit. How many of us wouldn't want to cash in on pension money like that? At his age he has plenty of time to make a lot more money than he would in Federal Government.
Having said that, Harper has lost quite a few big names from his team. Doesn't bode well for him in October. I predict a very short lived minority Conservative government and a Coalition Lib/NDP on first confidence vote. Then God help us.

Has too much time on their hands
There have been alot according to this article.
20 Conservative of 162
5 NDP of 97
2 Liberal. of 37
I wonder if you left then came back for the following one what that would do for the pension.
The change to the pensions was a good thing for Canada but wasn't for a politician that didn't want to commit his entire life to it.

Does he leave the hill in one of our helicopters?

Meehhh, could be worse. He could have stolen tax money and used it for re-election by laundering through Ad agencies like in ADSCAM or fleecing the treasury for a $Billion like the Provincial Libranos did with the gas plant scandals. I rather buy a bit of helicopter fuel than finance the Liberal transgressions. As far as self serving politician stunts go, he was a bargain....... Crooked politicians are now normal and fully endorsed in this country ( just ask Wynne), might as well go with the best deal.

The whole nonsense over the helicopters is just that, b.s. invented to make the haters happy is what it really looks like to me. Let's look at some reality rather than leaving out about half the facts like will happen on CBC.
1) Canada needs to replace its antique Sea Kings
2) He was the minister of the Dept of Defense and says the military had been asking to demo it for him.
3) He was called back and needed to be in Ottawa.
4) The cost and time involved amount to less than 0.11% of adscam and .003% of the " $478-million in penalties" that Chretien incurred cancelling the Cormorant order
5) The NDP MP defense critic had been asking for a demo... yet it becomes an issue when the Minister of Defense gets one... yep, usual left thinking, it is OK for us but not for the person actually responsible for that dept.
“Being picked up at a cost of $16,000 from a fishing camp is not the way to learn how search-and-rescue helicopters operate,” charged NDP defence critic Jack Harris, citing the approximate cost for what was a 30-minute flight.
Newfoundland NDP MP Ryan Cleary, a former journalist, had been critical of the search-and-rescue response times from Gander, but put in a request this summer to tour the base and fly in a Cormorant after the invitation of a senior official at the base.
On Thursday, he presented an email that MacKay’s office sent to him denying his request.
...
“He uses a Cormorant for a taxi, that’s just ridiculous. The minister is a hypocrite. He denies me and then he uses that Cormorant as his personal taxi,” Cleary said..
Yep, looks like the usual head up *** left logic, going for a joy ride for me is OK , or if you prefer waste is OK for me and we will hold the other side to a speck in the eye standard... $16,000 ..... that is .003% of the " $478-million in penalties" that Chretien incurred cancelling the Cormorant order... which in reality resulted in putting Canadian soldiers at risk (3 written off in crashes since then) .... or you can look at it as about half of what Justin Trudeau was charging charities for speaking fees before he was caught.

Yep, and it was very clear that in this case the NDP and as always the Liberals were fools. They love to play and distort and look for a perceived waste that is in this case could be justified and they probably wasted more ranting and ignore real waste and fraud... I guess because it is Liberal and NDP fraud and waste, they tend to not like reality. Oh and your original point is ... lacking integrity, it is like saying I won't compare the guy who whistles at a girl with the one who beats and rapes her... statements like that say something about mental and moral integrity. because of your view you confuse a poor decision with no criminal intent (and assume without evidence it exists) with a decision that is criminal and causes harm (like Cretien's) ....I guess because MacKay is Conservative it ..... left logic I guess.
