Finally Leaf Fans see the light

Makes me wonder how long the happy Rogers/Bell relationship is going to last if last night was an indication of things to come with a rebuild on the horizon?

Sure does look like Rogers overpaid for the Leafs AND the NHL broadcast rights. And with 'Pick and Pay' coming (wonder how many will just cut the cable all together?), they're going to be in a world of hurt the next few years. Brings a smile to my face!

The government did a good job putting these monopolies in their place. The only trouble will be in the pricing. Don't expect them to cut prices. They'll simply jack the prices to make up for any shortfall.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what they want for the high demand channels - like TSN and Sportsnet. Will they be permitted to charge a premium or will they have to charge a fixed rate across all channel offerings?

But the 'monopolies' will suffer. I was listening to a few radio programs, last week, and people were just incensed at what they had to 'bundle together' to get the channels they wanted. Even the CRTC said this will impact their bottom lines and jobs will be lost.

Back on topic, if the Leafs are going to suck for the next couple of years (unless they win the McDavid Lottery), I just don't see myself watching, I've really lost interest. May listen to 590 or 1050 AM radio in the background, though.

Wahoo, back to your last sentence, you have that 100% right and you might even see them permanently taken off the Saturday Night games, that is if Montreal or Ottawa are playing that night. Of course once they have a new general manager and coach in place things will heat up for awhile but without the talent on the ice they'll suffer hugely, I really see some companies looking at giving their private boxes back. right now don't care when I get back to see a game next year.

as we are hearing this is a 4-5 year re-build ( Tampa Bay ) and not sure that the leaf fans are that patient.

Even if they get McDavid I don't think that one kid can carry the franchise as he will be surrounded by whining dead weight. Besides the leafs would probably trade him for Teemu Selane or Darcy Tucker me thinks.

The MLSE has not been concerned with it's teams winning, as long as it fills the seats, and they can market the franchise.

I've never been a leafs fan, and quite honestly my opinion of someone who is actually drops a little bit when i find out. I admire loyalty, but can't quite class that as loyalty, more like blind obedience like a dog, or a simpleton. I'm glad that "fans" are finally doing what they should have done long ago, boycotted games. In places like Montreal it happens a lot quicker ( lets also remember that Montreal only has hockey in the winter to watch, unlike TO).

I think if a NHL franchise made it's way to a center like Hamilton, or Waterloo, you'd see the Leafs go bankrupt.

Bankrupt? That'll never happen. The Leafs (MLSE) is the richest franchise in the NHL with diversified assets spread all over the place. Stupid they ain't,at least,when it comes to money management. Team ownership and management business philosophy is a whole different ball of wax. The Black Hawks,for decades,used the same plan and until it finally collapsed,they wouldn't "see the light",either. The same thing needs to happen in TO.
