Default The making of the next gun dog

So with a heavy heart had found myself on the path to my next gun dog.
Exploring options when came across an add for a young male setter with the only caption "kennel dog will need to be trained to be a house dog".
Talking to the owner would have most guys taking a hard pass but I was curious enough to want to take a look.
Drove the 2 1/4 hours Sunday morning to see the dog on the ground and most important see how Nova felt about him.
First off Nova was neither impressed nor put off by this dog. Was a bit hard to get and exact age but it seems he is anywhere from 10-14 months but more of a pup than a started dog.
Honestly the dog didn't have a clue however there was enough hunt in him that it was tempting to invest some time and see if I can make him into a decent gundog at least for my needs. So put him in the back of the jeep and took him to his new home.
As soon as I can get him to stand still enough for a few pics I'll be introducing "Bently"
I'll be posting updates here as we get ready for the fall.

I don’t envy you in the work involved in turning him into a gun dog but my hats off to you for rolling the dice and taking him home. Once you get a handle on him your older dog should be of help some, but I know for the first while you’ll be working him on his own…. Good luck and looking forward to seeing some photos of him….

I don't subscribe to the old dog teaching the new dog theory so Bently has to do it on his own. Hard to call it work though teaching and watching a young dog learn the ropes. Labour of love for sure but have to do something to kill the time till Sept 25.

Enjoy the challenge. If anyone can turn this dog into a gundog it is you.

Congratulations FFF! I know its far from your first rodeo, so I have no doubt that you and Bently will make a great team!
