Is it just the time of year? I am not seeing ANY new posts or answers in the Hunting Section. Seems strange for me to go days not seeing any topics highlighted in blue. I show one answer that was posted Jan 10 and since then, not a thing. Just wondering.

Guess you can answer the question.
Why is your last post in the hunting section Dec 2?
The forum is what the members make it and can't complain about content if you don't contribute first.
Hope I don't sound harsh but its the reality.

FFF: I would say extremely harsh, sorry. I go to this site every morning and have always enjoyed it. I thought I was clearly not complaining, just wondering if I was missing something.
Some background for your information. I am a 75 year old with a myriad of health issues that have ended most outdoor activities that I enjoyed for decades. I therefore do not have a bunch of stories to tell or questions to ask. I do however live vicariously through the people who can still entertain me with their stories, questions and answers.
I do try to contribute where I can, sometimes only to thank fellow members for their contribution. I see I have done this only 138 times so I guess I should try to up my count although I do not think I will ever reach the 5257 mark.
You did answer my question so thanks for that.
I hope to continue reading and enjoying OOD and will contribute where and when I can.
    Happy New Year to all.

That's why I try to post however for doing so I've been accused of being boastful and a braggart. Others I have talked to were made to feel stupid for asking a question. Others were shamed for hunting the way the want.
So no wonder new blood may be hesitant to post.

FFF, your posts good, keep it up.

Expanding topics to include more areas of interest may help increase forum membership.

Sorry rodmcd but I don’t know why you found that reply harsh. It’s just reality that people post less when the season changes from fall. Happens every year. That applies to all of us not just you.

as seasons approach people get excited and post more, then it fades off. Watch the ice fishing section pick up soon as stuff is freezing up

Unfortunately all forums are less busy than they used to be. Other forms of social media have taken a lot of traffic. I personally prefer the flow of forums and topic threads but seems more people like facebook and such

No its not just you, in fact we are supposed to have 18,000 members on here more or less BUT FULLY 60% or more have never posted ANYTHING after registering?

I guess a lot more folks are put off for some reason or another from posting on here?

I think I touched a hot button which is honestly not what I was trying to do do. Then my second post did not help clear things up like I had hoped.. I just replaced my entire computer system and finally updated to windows 11. That change as well as the fact that there have been some issues with the site in the past made wonder if "it was just me". If it was then I had problems that I would have to fix. I do go on the site almost every day and could not remember seeing that in the hunting section which I had thought was one of the most active no posts showing up. I did get my answer (that there were no posts) and thanked Finsfurfeathers for it and would extend the thanks to Gilroy and FishHog. As for the "harsh" I did not bring that up, just said I did find it that way considering what I was attempting to find out.
I like everyone else hope things do improve and will continue to appreciate all the posters who have stories to tell and questions to ask and answer.
    All the best

The analytics of this forum have undoubtedly been diving. It will be interesting to see what the OFAH does as part of their social media revamp. Will it include a forum? Are there strategies to boost forum engagement? I'm sure that social media smart people will be looking at this.

I'm not sure switching to modern social media (i.e. FB) would work at this point. I belong to a few FB groups which cover what OOD would do in that space - it would be a very late comer to an already crowded market place.

Update - just checked FB - yes there is an OODMAG FB group with 17K followers. But it's not a discussion forum... just OOD articles that people do comment on.
