Spypoint came through

Last summer one of my cameras (Spypoint Micro) abruptly quit sending pictures. When I retrieved the camera in the fall, I noticed that it was still taking photos and storing them on the memory card. I tried reinstalling the firmware but no luck, it just wouldn’t connect to the cell network.

Since the camera was 5 years old and beyond the warranty period, I pretty much wrote it off. A couple of weeks ago, Cabelas had a sale and I picked up a Flex G36 as a replacement.

Last Saturday, I had an hour to kill and as a last resort, I decided to call Spypoint to see if they could troubleshoot the Micro. After following their procedures, it was apparent that the camera would not connect to the network and the agent attributed the problem to a faulty SIM card and said the camera needed to be replaced. To my great surprise, I was informed that they would replace it with the Micro LTE. What’s more surprising is that I told them that the warranty expired.

Now I have an extra camera to play with this year.

That's great news!

I should call them, I have a link micro that quit working during deer season and it doesn't even take pictures to store on the card. I've tried everything to get it going.

Of the 5 Spypoint cameras I own, 4 stopped working and couldn't be fixed. The remaining camera is still fairly new. Replacement options or not, the cameras failed. Spypoint offers newer models at a reduced price but every new model means a new steel case and new batteries because they don't keep those things consistent from one model to the next. I've found it to be expensive, wasteful and a hassle. This year, I am trying Tactacam. Over time, we'll see how that goes...

Interesting I still have my 2 original Micros (5 years I believe) and they still work perfectly. Having said that I picked up a Tactacam and it has far superior resolution. The downside is no free pics, you need a subscription to activate it. TC

That's great to hear. Not typical of my past history with spypoint. Maybe they are changing.

I received my camera in the mail on Friday. It activated normally and I will test it and my other cameras soon before setting them up in the woods for the season. I like to test them at home for about a month to ensure that they are functioning properly before setting them up at the deer camp.

i had problem with some spypoint cam but i got to say it was cause by the cell reception was real bad with some of my hunting spot, last deer season i test a Flex G36 and it was sending photos and videos where i did not have recption with my cell, so bought a few and they all worked for 2 months without any problem
the Fkex G36 gets way better connection cause this cell cam has 2 sim cards

Same experience. All my issues were self inflicted or cell coverage issues. Once I decided to long format my SD cards every time I had them out of the camera, use quality SD cards and batteries my issues went away

It does seem like a few people have very bad luck with SPYPOINT. Makes me wonder if their computers had an issue they don’t like or if they are just simply missing a part of the proper procedures
