Muzzleloader buck
Fortunate enough to end a three year slump and shoot this beautiful buck this morning. He came into a pair of grunt calls at 7am this morning. My best deer thus far
**Edit***
So bit of a late start this season. I set up my stand last Wed evening while the farmer was harvesting his soybeans. I decided to hang the stand and sit for a few hours. Once the combine was finished and left, no word of a lie 14 deer came out into the field within minutes. One of which was a good buck. Maybe this guy? They were quite far away and nothing came within range.
Monday morning I set up in the tree stand in the nautical winds. (A small valley that leads out into the bean field.)
I only saw two does in the morning and they came from the east, walked through the field and entered the bush approx 250 yards from me.
Monday afternoon I debated for a while where to sit, but ended up sitting in my turkey lounger chair near the spot the two does entered that morning.
Most of the Monday afternoon was quiet but three does did eventually come out from the bush into the field. I convinced myself I needed to get some meat in the freezer and took a shot at the largest doe. Felt comfortable but I must have flinched & completely missed. I couldn't believe it!! It was a 40 yard chip shot and I choked.
Well, this morning the whole drive out i couldn't decide where to sit. I had seen deer in this corner but wasn't sure if last night's KaBOOM would wreck the spot for a day or two. Anyways, I decided to sit in the same spot as last night, in my turkey chair again with some natural cover in front of me. I got there 45 mins before legal shooting time while I played past and future scenarios in my head.
At 6:55 I let out two grunt calls. I've never had much luck calling so didn't really think much would happen.
WELL wouldn't you know it.. here comes this buck within seconds, trotting across the field (beginning where my original stand is set up, go figure) and comes within 50 yards of where I'm sitting. I told myself I wasn't going to miss again, and thankfully had a perfect shot placement on him and he was expired in no time.
As I type this I still can't believe it happened. You really never know what can happen out there. Goodluck to everyone still out there!

*Also. Got stopped by CO on hwy 3. Checked everything, all was good. Nice guy. And he gave me a successful hunter 2023 crest.
