Party or group hunting

Most moose and deer hunters party or group hunt. Reading the hunting summary I do not see any information that talks to the number of hunters that can party hunt together. Is there a limit to the # of hunters that can hunt together.

no limits on number of hunters that can party hunt with 1 tag.
but they all have to buy the licence to party hunt.
Controlled deer hunt is a different story.

I wouldn't say most, definitely a lot, but an awful lot of people solo hunt, or a mix if both.
But no, there aren't limits of how many can be in a party.

and for the controlled hunt, there is no limit but everyone has to have been drawn for that hunt. I solo hunt, but I once and awhile will join the locals in the controlled hunt if I have been drawn for that weeks hunt to only help them out with dogging or retrieving as they are getting older than me.

If memory serves me correctly (don’t hold me to it) back in the days when the Game and Fish Act was in force, there was a section about parties maxing out at 8 hunters to minimize disturbance on private lands and for safety. This was dropped in the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

I've heard of some gangs in the 15 to 20 guys/gals during the Controlled Deer Hunt (usually in December) as they consist of a lot of farmers that push the bush. I keep mine at 6 because I can handle that amount for the November Controlled Deer Hunt but 8 sounds like a reasonable number. I know of deer camps up north where they have to split the two week rifle season to accommodate members.

yeah the locals around me hunt december and there used to be 24 in the group, now down to 5.

We started our crew in 1998 with 12 hunters spread out across 5KM's of remote Almaguin Highlands with much success. A couple of years later,we went to 10 and then to 8 where it stands today. We no longer hunt Moose due to tag reductions,but,we still hunt Bear and Deer out of the same camp. We've concluded that with 12 hunters,things were beginning to become rather unwieldy. Through natural attrition,we allowed the number to reduce to 8 which became much more manageable. How people manage camps with 20 or more members must be really tough.

Party hunting
A person may hunt moose, deer, or black bear in a party of two or more people who each hold a licence to hunt that species, even if the person has already invalidated their tag for that species. In these cases, at least one member of the party must hold a tag that has not yet been invalidated and the group must comply with the following conditions:

each person must have a valid licence to hunt the big game species being hunted
the total number of moose, elk, deer or bear of a specified sex, age or type killed by the party does not exceed the total number of tags for that sex, age or type held by the members of the party
all members of the party must hunt together in the same Wildlife Management Unit or portion thereof, for which the tag is valid
each member of the party must hunt within five kilometres of the person who holds the tag that is valid for the wildlife being hunted
each member of the party must be able to reliably and immediately communicate with other members of the party
all members of the party, including the person who holds the tag that is valid for the species that the party is hunting, must actively participate in the hunt and hunt co-operatively
Party hunting is also permitted for elk in accordance with the conditions noted above, however some additional rules apply - refer to the elk section for these additional rules.
