Moose Rifle Season is Approaching
Less than 2 weeks away!! I’ve been up to the hunting spot a few times now to hang a stand, cut a trail, cut firewood, and check trail cams. Got a couple of photos of moose, but also of wolves. The weather has been very mild lately, which probably means crap weather during the hunt lol. Good luck those few hunters on this forum who will be heading out.

I will be hunting up at the cabin this year solo for a calf, not going very far off the beaten track as I know they come through my front field in their travels, its a whole lot easier for them to come to me.
With that being said my expectations are pretty low, have seen no calf tracks this year and the weather looks to be unseasonally warm. But a week or so at the cabin with a little bass fishing and tree cutting
is plenty fun for me.

Just got back from couple hours north of Thunder Bay,
Moose were not very receptive to calls for us, Had a young bull come to 10 yards no shot and and eventually smelt me, Way he came defiantly the big boys haven't got into a fighting mood.
We seen 2 bulls, 3 cows and a calf didn't get one but 5 out of the 6 moose were under 60 yards just never the right situation. Heard 3 other bulls grunt a few times
Thinking opening gun week maybe a good time up around there.
All action was before 9:30. Once hot no movement or responses

0 degrees and snowed on us last night pulling into the family camp north of Sturgeon Falls coming from the Soo. Was glad to see the lights at the Ranch, was darn near a whiteout for the last 15 minutes of the drive. Of course the snow melted this morning! Good luck on your hunt. I’m still saving points for a bull!

This guy was harvested two hours into opening day by the young member to the left of the picture. Cleaned trails and had some great shore lunches and a few adult beverages the rest of the hunt

Didn’t have a tag this year, buddies camp up in the park shot one on their first chase Monday morning. Nice bull, probably around 30 inch spread.
They say the only good wolf is a dead wolf, If that’s the case than I’ve reformed many a wolf.
