Boy I almost got wiped out yesterday - I'm replacing the rotten soffit around my barn - used a 8lb sledge hammer to knock out some of the old facia on the barn - was standing on a 10 high step ladder doing this - when I was done I put the sledge hammer on the top of the ladder - the next day I wanted to move the ladder and forgot about the hammer - I started moving the ladder and the hammer falls off the ladder and hits me on the head - that's a 8 lb hammer falling about 6 to 7 feet - my first reaction was to get mad that I was so stupid to do that - then I was concerned how much damsage was done to my head - have a sore spot and a lump on my head kinda toward the side of my head - felt some pressure in my ears -

I called my daughter - who is a nurse and she said that I should go to the emergency room to make sure there was no internal bleeding going on - my son drove me to the hospital where they did a cat scan of my head and neck - thank God everything checked out ok - doctor said that it seems the hammer kinda glazed the side of my head and not the top otherwise it could have factored my skull - was told to take it easy for a couple days and watch for symptoms of a concussion -

Boy you never know how fast things can happen - I think I dodged a bullet because things could have been a lot worse -

You're lucky. I worked around ladders all the time. Those incidents can actually be deadly.

Joe, I am continually impressed by the things you do around your farm….most people 20 years younger than you can’t even imagine doing it ….IF they knew how to start

For some reason I can't just sit around doing nothing - my kids keep telling me to stop doing such dangerous things because of my age - but I think if I stop I will get old - I Love to work - it gives me a lot of satisfaction when I see 6 cords of firewood sitting under the wood shed - getting all kinds of healthy food from my garden and orchard - love working on cars - with the information on the internet one can fix pretty much anything they run into on a vehicle - I think keeping active has helped me stay in pretty good shape - I will be 90 in a couple months - I got my aches and pains but live with them - the one thing I miss right now is not going to Ontario to fish - use to go up there about 5 times each year for a Week or so - stop when the border was closed and didn't get started again because of so much to do around the place - hopefully I'll start again next year - got to change some parts of my wood burning stove before the winter - some of the cast iron parts need changing - got to rebuild the front suspension on my 98 Ford van - the top and bottom ball joint fittings need changing - watched a number of guys on You Tube doing this and it looks like something I can do - by then it will be time to get the crossbow out and take one of the nice buck I've been seeing down the back - got a doe license too so should have some meat in the freezer - been a widower for over 23 years - dear wife passed away back in '97 - so I got to cook my meals and take care of a house at the same time - fortunately I have 5 nice children to check up on me - got 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren - been blessed
