Yamaha design engineers need an axe handle to the back of the head!
WTF? Just picked up a brand new 20hp Yammy with electric start. I was shaking my head when I discovered how lousy the tilt function is on the motor. Come on guys, you've been making this F series motor for at least 20 years! Some idiot put the tilt release lever in the absolute worst possible spot on the engine. It's almost impossible to release the engine from full tilt-up position unless you have a hand that's the size of a two year old child! How did this possibly pass the design review? Beautiful motor but annoying as hell every time you put it on tilt. Sorry, just my rant after paying $5200.

Well I can't say I've ever had a problem with my F40 and the tilt handle, located on the right side of the motor. I can swivel my seat a bit, put my hand over the transom and either raise or lower the motor and my hands are a size 10-11.

I agree - huge PITA. Took me a while to get used to it but still don't like it

Are you talking about the electric tilt and trim or the lever at the back?

The tilt switch for the manual tilt motor. It’s on the front of the motor, instead of the side like every other motor I’ve owned or used. The engine blocks access to the tab when you put the motor on full tilt. Someone at yamaha should be fired, or at least tanned with a nice three foot piece of lathe.
