While we’re at it, we need to figure out a way to stop polluting so much and start taking care of this planet better.

If you own an car and live in a detached house, you're part of the problem you want to solve.
While most Canadians SAY they want to do something for the environment, most do not want to lower their standard of living in a way that would be meaningful.
Count me in that group, but at least I'm not a hypocrite about it.

BTW - if a carbon tax actual made a difference to the environment, we would have had a covid tax to to deal with covid.
All carbon taxes are are a wealth transfer aimed at making western countries more socialist. Nothing to do with the environment. I don't think anyone that's thinking at all, thinks so.

Sorry wasn’t trying to be hypocritical. There’s just always so much complaining when it comes to the government and the environment. I’m no fan of extra taxes on the citizenry. What I do notice though is a genuine lack of ideas to help the environment in a meaningful way. Not on an individual basis, but as a whole population. It’s a global problem.

Kepp in mind 12000 years ago Canada was covered in 2 km's of ice. Climate has been changing since the dawn of time.

I work in an industry where 1 piece of equipment burns up to 1000 liters a day of diesel with little to no emission suppressing technology. Multiply that by a few hundred pieces of equipment in southern Ontario, mainly GTA. Any attempt to blame the bulk of carbon emissions on the average Joe really seems ridiculous.

Imagine the emissions from households burning coal, wood, and garbage just a few decades ago, I think we have all come a long way to reduce our emissions.... Long before the carbon tax was ever thought of.

Actually not too much, Canada is responsible for less than 5 percent of emissions so even if we wreck our economy to try to cut our emissions in half it will have little effect since we are not a big polluter. The future of the environment will be decided by 3 world countries who could care less to cut their emissions and pollution.

Also since the liberal government has upped the carbon tax emissions have gone up so I don’t know what carbon tax has to do with it. Maybe if we want to help the environment we should spend some money to set up proper wast disposal in third world countries.

Why this thread is complaining about the government?
Why people have to solve the problem of the environment?
When did the government genuinely listened anyway(lately only special interest groups get attention-the average hardworking Joe is kicked to the curb, and taxed to death)
Why the government does exist in the first place-if not to take care of the problems for the population( yes,i know-the way things are currently-i am dreaming here ).

At the end-perhaps please let us know what is your proposal to solve the environmental issues.

On the assumption that climate change is cyclical we will avoid solving something we can’t control. In saying that, there is a lot we can control. We need to control consumption of materials. I’m not alone in my observation of cheaply made objects. You know the ones that require frequent replacing. Usually over packaged in multiple plastic covers. Usually made of poor quality materials, purposely designed to break, therefore needing replacement. A store comes to mind (dollerama). In my opinion if we could slow our consumption of raw materials and goods made by these materials we could put a dent in the amount of pollution we produce.

It also wouldn’t hurt if globally we all got on board of some kind of clean up program. Maybe clean that floating island of garbage the size of Texas in the Pacific Ocean. Now that we have found micro plastics in the water we drink and the animals we eat and even in breast milk. Maybe we should stop using so much plastic.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but my gut tells me if we don’t change our mentality soon it may be too late. We are no different than lamprey, sucking the life juices out of this planet.

On this planet the mentality has to change from only thinking about “me” to “we”. We are all in this together.

These ideas require more serious discussion and they are more complex than my generalizations. But these are my observations.
