Looking for local tanner - 705 area

I have 2 yote, 1 beaver and 1 mink pelts that I would like to get tanned but I'm having a hard time finding anyone in the Barrie area. Will drive a bit to get them in some willing hands. Thanks for any info!

I was in Sudbury not too long ago to pick up some gear and found this guy who is giving a tanning course. I'm not sure if you're interested in learning how to do it yourself but he might also be able to recommend someone who could help you out. Here's the info on the course:

It very interesting that there is a section stating:


This course will be offered to the following individuals only. Anyone can purchase a tanning permit #4
1) Trappers (trapper # required)
2) Individuals with Aboriginal status (status card required)
3) OFA registered farmers (OFA card required)
4) Licenced tanners (tanning permit granted by MNRF required)

So it appears the private individuals looking to learn for themselves are not included in the group

It up to the trainer to choose. It's understandable, but does anyone know any potential "legal" implications why the trainer elects not get involved with individual trainees?

You bring up a good point. A person with a small game licence that takes a coyote could legally tan the pelt or any other pelt where a notice of possession has been issued (think roadkill) to this person without falling under 1 to 4.

If you want to save yourself all the hassle of doing it yourself Trans Canada Traps Supplies In North Bay gets green hides tanned. It takes close to a year when they are done but it is top quality.

You still have to have the proper licenses etc. but they look after all the MNRF paperwork.

I can't find it right now but I think the Tanners license is fairly cheap.
The trainer keeps classes small. This keeps the trainees restricted to people who are invested and helps keep the Peta crowd away...
