    Default Base Borden Air Show

So for Father’s Day we went to base Borden for the air show. It was absolutely awesome. I highly recommend this outing for anyone. The gates opened at 9 and there was lots to see and do. We went into various hangars to see all the aircraft on display. I sat in the cockpit of a snowbird (first time), it’s mesmerizing to see all the gauges and equipment these pilots have to know.

There were lots of military vehicles on display that were open to the public. We saw many tanks and personnel carriers. There were many firearms on display, it was great to let the kids hold and explore these. I was intrigued by the mobile medical, dentistry and kitchen set ups. The amount of thought and planning that goes into these designs is genius.

Kids friendly activities were all over. They had a mini boot camp obstacle course, paintball gun range, bouncy castles, etc. They had a live military band playing all kinds of songs, even had bagpipes come out a bit (my favourite).

The air show itself was very impressive. I will be sure to bring ear protection and a spare pair of shorts the next time an F18 flys over my head. Scared the crap out of me. Aerial acrobatics of various planes and helicopter manoeuvres as well as sky diving displays were all very entertaining.

If I could make one criticism, it would be to have more food vendors on site. Waiting an hour for fries and hotdogs for the kids isn’t worth it.

If anyone is looking for an entertaining Father’s Day outing next year, put this on your list.

That looks like a great day for sure.
I never realized that the snowbirds were that small?

Didn't know they had an airfield there. Often hear the heavy Artillery when hunting in the fall.
