fish finder opinions
I have kind of decided that I would like either the Garmin striker 7SV or the lowrance hook reveal 7 tripleshot. Anyone have any experience with either?

Everyone has their particular beliefs and like/dislikes of equipment, For one, I don't like flashers, they give me a headache at least migraine after a little while of watching. Goes the same for other products, make a "pro's and con's" list and maybe get your answer.

I had a Lowrance hook 7, didn’t like it at all. I went back to a Humminbird Helix. I find it much easier to operate. Likely the reason a lot of the big boys use Humminbird Helix.

I dont like Lowrance. Ive never used a more un-user friendly device.
I like Garmin, but be warned that the cords they are using these days are somewhat delicate if youre going to be unhooking it often. Be careful! The user interface is very friendly though.
I dont have enough experience with Humminbird.

I ended up with a hook 7 reveal with the tripleshot transducer. Between all the forums I have been following there seemed to be the same pros and cons on all brands so there wasn't any brand that stood out. I based it on certain brands having issues that seemed to be consistent across the board and this unit had the best probability of being a reliable unit. Lowrance also has youtube channels which explain the features of their products in great detail which I need since I am new to the down scan and side scan technology.

Good luck with your new toy, I hope that it helps you catch more fish.

I have been a Lowrance user since they came out with the paper graph fish finder.
I still have an old portable Lowrance Eagle that I still use on the aluminum boat and on my kayak.
My Legend boat came with a Hummingbird, and it was okay, but the Eagle seemed more accurate and clearer. I put a Lowrance tripleshot on it, but the boat died the next year, so thats gone now.
I’m looking to get a new finder for my kayak, and was seriously considering the new Garmin 4” until I saw a utube video on Lowrance Downscan vs Garmin and Hummingbird. Apparently Lowrance first developed Downscan and they patented it, so the others don't truly do a downscan. Instead, they fudge it by overlapping 2 sidescan cones, but that doesn’t accurately show what is directly under your boat. Now I’ve decided to go with a Lowrance Hook2 5” for the yak because of this.

each major manufacture has their strengths and weaknesses
Garmin- strength - Forward facing sonar weakness - side imaging
Lowrance - strength - 2d and down imaging - weakness screen resolution (specially on touch units)
Hummingbird - strength - side imaging - weakness 2d sonar
biggest thing is learning how to maximize your unit, having the top of the line unit is no advantage if you can't use it to its full potential
