    Default Random act of kindness

Went to a really small scale local butcher shop today.

Bought few small items at the butcher, little bit of this-little bit of that. I do not know the quality of their products(first time there-they were recommended by a coworker ).The butcher is "really"small scale place.
At the end ,i had 19 $ worth of meat ,and some candies.
Cashier lady would not accept credit card-The store is cash only(which i did not know).
They had a bank MC on site-but my bank card is scratched ,waiting for a new one to arrive via mail .Tried to no avail to use it(i kind of knew,it will not work-but hoped for the best)

I turned back to the cashier lady-and asked her to put my stuff away. Will be back in 10-15 min(time needed for visiting the closest TD bank for some cash).

A total stranger-a nice lady said:no worries,i pay for this!!!
    I was like-no need,i will be back.
She insists.I say-no need !This is 20 $.No need!!! I will be back with the money.
    She insists:
I offer her 5 $ (the cash i had on me) as to try at least to decrease her "kindness"amount.
She insists to pay the whole amount.Gives my 5 $ squarely back to me.
And she say:this is Ok,one day it will come back to me( her) also............the cashier seconds:she is working at Costco too,and this is a regular occurrence there as well.
The lady pays-the lady say :You have a wonderful weekend.
A thank her ,wish her the same-and feeling TOTALLY weird-walk away.
    Almost-run away....it was so bizarre.

Before this event i have visited the city dump, dressed in worn out-work clothes, to drop off old paint.
I was not shaved(weekend ) ,dressed down, bough small amounts of this and that, and probably "looked" like someone can use some help.

What would you do in my place after all?

I've done many things over the years to help out others..... not going to brag on here. I come from a very poor family - violent, alcoholic father ( PTSD from WW2)- now deceased. I know how much a small act of kindness can make a huge difference.
I remember waiting for the school bus in grade 9 , freezing as usual- summer jacket. My friend showed up with a big fur winter coat. I have never forgotten that act of kindness.

My first thought is WOW, you went to a butcher and it only cost $19!!!! My next thought is that you accept the stranger's generousity and play it forward.

Quite often now someone at Tim Hortons is paying it forward. A small gesture but I think it has a great effect on both donor and receiver.

Thats a loaded gesture though. Great for the donor and recipient perhaps but an absolute nightmare for the employee at times.

"Oh look, I did a good thing and feel great about myself." Isn't always good for everyone. Many times the extra couple seconds it takes to shuffle orders causes the "window times" to run longer than they are supposed to which leads to staff getting reprimanded.

As with all things good there's always a scammer taking advantage of things. The new one is to start a drive-thru pay it forward and then circle around and place a large order.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?
