"The problem of money-laundering in Canada and other corruption scandals have been headline news in recent years dragging down the perception of Canada as a clean country. This year's disappointing results show the need to take concrete action to restore Canada's reputation, James Cohen, executive director of Transparency International (TI) Canada, said in a statement."

"Though Canada's rank is enviable compared to that of France (71) and the United States (67), it masks a concerning downward trend. The country's score has dropped 10 points since 2012."

"I think Canadians are frustrated, and rightfully so, Cohen said in an interview. What the public needs to do is keep up the pressure to make sure that changes come through.
We can't just rest on our image of Canada the good anymore, we need to see action."

"Rather, the country is likely feeling the shock waves of recent issues that have made worldwide headlines, namely ethics scandals involving the Trudeau government as well as the national reckoning of the scope of money laundering in Canada."
