Default Easily the costliest natural disaster in Canadian history'

Officials and emergency services on Thursday were still trying to reach 18,000 people stranded after floods and mudslides destroyed roads, houses and bridges in what could be the costliest natural disaster in Canadian history.
I was watching the news coverage on this 'disaster' and the interesting fact is, that it's not a natural disaster at all...it's a man-made disaster as a result of building a town (Abbotsford) on a lake bed. In the link below they show a satellite view of the area and it's abundantly clear, it's because some idiots approved the use of a lake bed between a mountain range to build their town and homes.

Then rename it "The Sumas Prairie." HaHa..

Then mother nature came along, years later and fills the lake bed back up again.

Now they're screaming of similar disasters that will occur when the ocean water level starts to rise due to Climate Change. Thousands of homes built on flood planes around coastal areas are going to go underwater. Duh....

We have a local one just outside of Kempville...it's on a road called 'Hilly Lane' ironically, because it's below sea level. Almost every spring the entire cluster of homes flood out. They have to leave their cars on the Hwy and use row boats to get to their homes. Over and over, year after year.

As in Abbotsford, they are calling on governments at various levels to use tax payers money to build infrastructure to keep Mother nature from re-claiming her land.

    Natural Disaster my butt...HaHa..

There are quite a few locations like that. Almost like it was planned to occur decades ago.
The concept of building high and dry escapes the logic of too many.
Location, location, location is all they look at and when disaster strikes they claim innocence.
Look at New Orleans as an example.
    You just can't fix stupid.

I’ll make this very clear, all major highways are seriously damaged or destroyed, all rail lines are down, ships are backing up unable unload. You will not be receiving any goods from western ports for months. 248D91C8-C68F-4B30-87A6-940CBF815172.jpg

We’ve been stranded in Kamloops and Kelowna all week, at least we are able to stay with daughters, but so many are stuck in cars. The damage is beyond believe, it’s going to take years. The country will be feeling the effects of this for a very long time. 435C989F-0C3C-4794-A302-A1D6E54DBD52.jpgE36209F4-D34F-4A1F-B61A-5913A9E73D80.jpgA5DB42C7-3AB9-4D6C-902D-3B18D95FD34E.jpg

Instead of thinking ahead, it's the usual knee jerk reaction. How often do you see the coastal areas get flooded and they just keep rebuilding instead of fixing the actual problem.

Why they created the problem in the first place is the mystery...taking an area that used to be called 'Lake Sumas' and bright minds deciding to drain it and turn it into 'Sumas Prairie' boggles the mind. With a mountain range right beside it that drains water after it rains.

    How did that happen...HaHa..
