Unofficial Remembrance Day ceremony hijacked by anti-vaccine crowd

With no official event at Kelowna's City Park for Remembrance Day, an unofficial ceremony took place that led to chaos.

Hundreds of people were in attendance for the event, which included a number of veterans. Following a rendition of "The Last Post" on a bugle and a reading of "In Flander's Fields," anti-vaccine activists took over the proceedings.

This brought about boos from the crowd. People began to shout down a woman who brought out her own microphone to speak on COVID-19.

Then a struggle began as people attempted to unplug her microphone.

Among those who stepped in to interrupt the anti-vaccine speech was Legionnaire Ken Hoegson.

"Everyone of us that came here were violated today," said Hoegson.

"We're here to remember the people that gave them that freedom that they're using, but they're abusing it," he said.

Many residents were outraged, noting it was "not the place" for this demonstration.

"I did find it very hurtful. That's why I felt I had to go up there and speak to them."

The RCMP stepped in to restore order.

I never thought I’d see people, pretending to fight for freedom, interrupt a remembrance ceremony. Shameful. You can obviously hear the crowd agitated by the women with the microphone. You think people would know better. Distasteful, disrespectful and hurtful.

Always be wary of being sanctimonious Badenoch:

Cranbrook RCMP is investigating an act of vandalism committed against the Kootenay city’s cenotaph on Remembrance Day.

Mounties say they were called to the site around 7 a.m., when a passerby noticed graffiti scrawled across a memorial at the site.

The words, written in green paint, say, “the real heroes are the vaccinated.

    Hero's for sure....

I think it's quite rich that many people (mostly liberals) all of a sudden pretend to care about Canada or Remembrance Day, when fewer and fewer wear a poppy and more and more welcome mass uncontrolled immigration. We are taught to hate our history and our culture.

Same thing in the states. Dems cheered on the rioting, burning, looting, violence, general break down of society and total destruction of the country for over a year, and all of a sudden talk about saving democracy when a few harmless people meander through the capital lol.

I have a contrarian view about this video. It was ultimately in bad taste as they could have had their display adjacent to the main event/microphone. But I think their message is true -- our soldiers fought for freedom and this isn't it.

How is she pretending to fight for freedom when she's done more for freedom in a few seconds than all the low-testosterone, complacent beta males who have just gone along with this tyranny every step of the way?

I agree that her hijacking the microphone is in bad taste, similar to Kanye West's infamous moment of the same nature during Taylor Swift's VMA award acceptance speech. She could have chosen to stand up for our freedoms with a different approach.

100% agree, just shows how people on both sides are losing their minds and understanding of what is acceptable.
People really need to get outside and away from the daily barrage of all this crap.

People can't even communicate anymore, they do nothing but throw insults, post youtube clips or throw up thousands of asinine memes thinking that anyone is paying attention to them.

The world is in a truly bad place, but boy was it nice to go to deer camp for a week and forget about all of it.
