Over 627K Canadians continuously relied on now-defunct CRB
Here's a brief look at the numbers...keep in mind this was just the CRB...it replaced the CERB a year ago.
The assessment from Employment and Social Development Canada found that by early June, 1.5 million, or about 75 per cent of the 1.8 million unique recipients of the benefit, were continuous or repeat beneficiaries.
Among them were some 627,000 recipients who applied and received the benefit for months at a time, never once taking a break.
As of Oct. 10, the
CRB had paid out just over $27 billion to nearly 2.2 million applicants since launching in late September 2020, but had seen a steady decline in demand from its peak of 1.22 million recipients in January.
That's $12, 200 bucks per person in the year (Sept 2020 -Oct 2021) that were on CRB.
This comment stood out...
CIBC chief economist Avery Shenfeld wrote in an end-of-week analysis that there is now a risk that workers supported by the wage subsidy or CRB “
will be added to the ranks of the job hunters” and affect progress on bringing down the national unemployment rate.
Shouldn't anyone on CRB already have been "in the ranks of the job hunters' ??

Yeah it's crazy I saw an article that said 880 thousand are out of an income now .
Shame there is plenty of work for them.

Apparently not for 'Artists'..I saw a piece on how they are going to suffer now. Seems to me the term 'starving Artist' goes with the profession. They probably have never made $12K a year and are spoiled now. Maybe it'll will give them an incentive to pursue a more gainful career

My gut feeling is that the Liberals are just giving this a dry run for the guaranteed income program.

This will make those most in need (?) regret taking a handout from the Government.
Unlike with the CERB, Ottawa withheld 10 per cent tax at source on all CRB payments. However, recipients may have to pay more tax on their CRB income at tax time.
And anyone with net income above $38,000 in a calendar year will have to repay $0.50 of the benefit for every $1 of net income above the threshold.
The bigger questions that Canadians should be asking...why were 'emergency funds' given to people who earned more than $34K !!
[B] The government wants to know whether you earned more than $38,000 in the year in addition to the payments you received through the CR [B/]

I hope there's someone in the new cabinet that realizes there's another unmitigated boondoggle brewing. When you pay people to do nothing, that's exactly what they'll do......nothing.

Follow me on this.........
The liberal idea is.....................
Give them money and they will spend it.
As they circulate the money it helps keeps jobs...
As they spend the money they begin to accumulate material things.
As they accumulate material things, they start feeling good about themselves.
Now they will want more material things
So now they will go out and get a job that pays better than CERB or Universal Basic Income....
The liberals have it all figured out, the rest of us aren't smart enough to see it.

I hope You are joking......
There is zero wisdom(one European Politician said-zero brain)is needed to print money and hand it out.
However ,there is a lot of thinking/planning and wisdom needed to achieve the same results ,without handing out free money.

Universal basic income.
Add to that Universal Child care.
Like Cerb, as Trudeau put it, "we (the government) are going to pay for it, so you don't have to.
Special thanks to Federal Carbon Tax to help make it happen.
