Ash Trees
As I drive around the neighborhood I notice thousands and thousands of dead ash trees - they stand out among the other trees - never knew there were so many - it is a shame that his is happening - I'm cutting down a lot of them for firewood but you have to be really careful - the top branches are dead and if you aren't careful some may break off while your cutting the tree - if a tree has a lot of dead branches coming from the main trunk in all directions I won't even try cutting this kind of tree - too dangerous - just think of all the diseases and bugs that we got from China -
One thing I noticed this year was that I didn't see a tick all year - I spend a lot of time outdoors and usually encounter a lot of them but for some reason I didn't see any this year - what I did see was a lot of spotted lantern flies - that's a new bug we got from China -

Funny you should post this Joe. I took down 3 Ash yesterday and halfway done processing today.
The branches are gnarly and a real pain in trying to feed into a chipper.
Splitting is also a headache.
The bugs got them so they got turned into firewood for next year.

Most of what I cut is ash, all dead around here. The Emerald Ash Borer has decimated the Ash around Ottawa.
Technically in Ontario your not suppose to transport ash very far so as not to introduce the bug someplace else.

I'm going to try and cut 15 face cords after shotgun season keep 10 for myself and sell off 5. I have access to 1 good woodlot but I am trying to get access to another one where the tree's are small but it's a larger lot and I won't have to split more than 20%.
I have a good supply of firewood anyways and if I drop 10 more cords for myself. I will have enough to last me 5 - 9 years (I use the heat pump when it's warmer then -10C or 14 F). Next year will probably be the last year I cut as much firewood for my self I want 50 face cords outback and then I will stop I am currently at 35.

Ah yes, the gifts from Asia that keep on giving.
Repercussions, nope, we just keep buying their crap and letting them bring in more and more pests.
The decimated Ash population is not China's fault, it's our own. We have been pretty lucky out our way as far as Ash so far bit the Beech bark disease is wrecking havoc on the stands. That one they say is a gift from Europe. I would wager 80% of the Beech on my property that are over 12" are dead or dying.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

Has too much time on their hands
I'm an arborist and manage a 650 acre property -- I could cut dead Ash every day until I die and still not clean them all out.

Yeah my grandmother had a giant one in her front yard. Branches were falling on her roof.
Helped my uncle cut it down last year I believe.
Watch out when you let the branches go down. Its like dropping glass on the floor how those branches shatter lol
