Tricks for getting smells out of wood furniture?
Does anyone have good tips or tricks they have used to get smells out of wood furniture, specifically, cigarette smoke smells?
I have a gun cabinet that my dad made and that I want to use at my cottage, but it reeks of cigarette smoke. In the spring I washed the whole thing with a damp cloth, then a vinegar soaked cloth, then sprayed it down with Febreeze. It has been in my garage since then with a box of baking soda in it, and I have been hoping it would "air out", but it still smells. I'd really like to use it, but I don't want to stink up the whole cottage. Hopefully someone has a magic solution for me?

Honestly, the smell will not harm anyone and will kind of remind you of him looking over your shoulder.
Like him, it will gradually fade away.
Cherish the moment my friend.

Vinegar is used on furniture to remove smells and charcoal is also known to absorb odors. Probably your best shot at it though would be to contain the cabinet in a sealed container like those covered garment racks and then use an ozone generator, that's what the pros use to remove smoke odor from rooms and vehicles. Don't try it indoors though, not good for your lungs at all.

Ozone is your best bet. Another caveat in addition to the ones raised by Smitty is that it is a very strong oxidant (that's why it works against odors) and may cause corrosion on any metal parts used in the construction of the cabinet.
