They don't have to renew your contract. These days the government contracts are X number of years and each year has so many options they can just let the option expire. A few people at the Royal are rumoured to be quitting / retiring. I know one person in IT who is working from home now and will not be coming back. Our IT dept is not unionized.

My wife belongs to CUPE and CUPE has told them they have to get vaccinated. I don't know about the other unions.
At my place of work most Dr's are actually contractors but they do belong to a union.
