Novavax COVID-19 vaccine more than 90% effective
For some of us here waiting for a more traditional vaccine there is hope on the horizon.
Canada did purchase in August last year 52 million doses with option for 20 million more.
"Novavax Inc on Monday reported late-stage data from its U.S.-based clinical trial showing its vaccine is more than 90% effective against COVID-19 across a variety of variants of the virus."
"The study of nearly 30,000 volunteers in the United States and Mexico puts Novavax on track to file for emergency authorization in the United States and elsewhere in the third quarter of 2021, the company said."
"Novavax’s protein-based COVID-19 vaccine candidate was more than 93% effective against the predominant variants of COVID-19 that have been of concern among scientists and public health officials, Novavax said."
"Protein-based vaccines are a conventional approach that use purified pieces of the virus to spur an immune response and vaccines again whooping cough and shingles employ this approach."
"The vaccine was 91% effective among volunteers at high risk of severe infection and 100% effective in preventing moderate and severe cases of COVID-19. It was roughly 70% effective against COVID-19 variants that Novavax was unable to identify, Glenn said."
"Novavax remains on track to produce 100 million doses per month by the end of the third quarter of 2021 and 150 million doses per month in the fourth quarter of 2021, the company said."

I saw that this morning...finally, another option away from the mRNA experimental vaccines.
Something to look forward to for the 3rd shot later this fall.
This vaccine will eventually be made in Canada for our annual 'Covid Flu' shot
On 2 February 2021, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada has signed a tentative agreement for Novavax to produce millions of doses of its COVID-19 vaccine in Montreal, Canada, once it is approved for use by Health Canada, making it the first COVID-19 vaccine to be produced domestically.

Yes, it will become our seasonal flu shot.
I am of the opinion that there was profiteering going on with the rollout of the mRNA vaccines and holding this one back.
The truth will eventually come out and Fauci's head is going to roll.
"SII had said in March that U.S. restrictions on exports of supplies used for vaccines were limiting its ability to scale up production."
